Death of the Salesman

The business that depends on one closer, one hero, one person who “just knows” has a bottleneck with a name. We spend one day inside the work. Then we hand you the map and the system that replaces the personality.

What dies

The old model

  • Revenue that only moves when a particular person is in the room
  • Processes that live in heads, not systems
  • Handoffs that stall, double-handle, or vanish
  • Owners who are still the best closer, the best fire-fighter, and the bottleneck
  • Growth that adds headcount instead of removing friction

What replaces it

The system

  • Work that flows without a hero standing in the gap
  • Clear ownership at each choke point
  • A written operating picture the team can actually run
  • Decisions pulled out of personality and put into process
  • Capacity you can measure, not hope for

The engagement

One day on the floor.
A system on the desk.

  1. 00

    NDA first

Nothing is discussed, observed, or written until a one-sided NDA is signed. Your numbers, people, and methods stay inside the room.

  2. 01

    The day

We arrive. We walk the real work — not the org chart. Interviews with the people who actually move the job. Observation of handoffs, tools, queues, and the places work waits. No workshop theatre. No slide deck on arrival.

  3. 02

    The return

You receive a written diagnosis: named bottlenecks, a systems map of how work actually moves, and a prescribed operating design. What to stop. What to install. What to leave alone.

A day finds the truth. Implementation is a separate decision. We do not sell a retainer on the way out the door.

Method

We look where the work waits

Flow

Where does a job sit? Who is waiting on whom? Which step is theatre and which step creates the outcome?

Dependency

Which person, tool, or approval is the single point of failure? If they are sick on Thursday, what stops?

Signal

What does the business actually measure versus what it talks about? Pipeline fiction versus work-in-progress truth.

Handoff

Sales to ops. Ops to delivery. Delivery to accounts. The gaps between teams are where margin dies.

System vs habit

What is written down, what is tribal, and what only works because one person compensates for the rest.

Constraint

The constraint is rarely “we need more sales.” It is usually a queue, a decision, or a missing owner.

Who this is for

Small and medium businesses that have outgrown improvisation

Owners who still carry the close, the exception, and the memory of how things are done. Teams of roughly 5–80 where the next hire will not fix the shape of the work. Trade, professional services, wholesale, specialist retail, light manufacturing, and B2B operators who are busy and still leaking time.

Not a fit: early-stage ideas with no operating history, businesses shopping for a motivational speaker, or anyone wanting a sales-script pack.

Confidential

We are in the room. We are not in the market.

Every engagement starts with a written NDA. Findings are delivered only to the people you name. We do not publish case studies that identify clients. We do not reuse your process maps as sales material. If the work requires seeing P&Ls, margins, or customer lists, that access is scoped and destroyed or returned at the end of the engagement.

Next step

Request a diagnostic day

Short note. Who you are, what the business does, headcount, and the thing that currently hurts. If it is a fit, we send the NDA and lock a date.
